Reveille 2025

15 Apr 2025

Cliffe Castle, KeighleyS

Reveille 2025 in Keighley.

I’ll be broadcasting the Dawn Chorus on Sunday 4th May 2025 from Cliffe Castle, Keighley.

The Reveille 2025 broadcast is run by the good people at Soundtent, and our Keighley event is organised partly by the Cliffe Castle Support Group.

This is part of my A Sense Of Place project which is about connecting to place via sound.

You can listen to the livestream between about 4:40am and 5:30am on our Reveille 2025 page.

To Join us

Meet 4:30am at the car park at Cliffe Castle, Spring Gardens Lane, Keighley, BD20 6LH.

We’ll walk into the park on a tarmac path that is suitable for wheelchairs. If the weather is fair we’ll head to the area above the play park where we can over look the valley and see the sun rise in the East. If it’s wet there is a covered area near the cafe that we can use.

We will set up our recording and broadcasting equipment and broadcast the sounds we hear</a> as part of Reveille 2025, an international broadcast of the Dawn Chorus from around the globe.

At sunrise, local musician, Phil Moody, will welcome the day with a short musical piece.

We anticipate that people will make their own creative responses to the event through drawing, writing, poetry, and so on. Local artist, Nicola Storr will be on hand to aid, inspire, and guide people wishing to draw.

Once the sun has risen we can start to disperse or stay around, maybe share some food, show each other what we have created, and so on.

Please Note

  • You will arrive in the dark, before the sun rises. Bring a torch.
  • This event is aimed at people living within walking distance of the site. In order to keep this a low carbon event we would ask that people do not travel by car unless they need to.
  • The event will take place whatever the weather - unless there is a severe weather warning.
  • You will need to be self-sufficient for about 2 hours. You are responsible for your own welfare at this event.
  • There are no amenities that we can guarantee will be open at the time of the event e.g. toilets, cafe, shops.

You might bring

  • A torch - both to see and to be seen.
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather and terrain. Walking boots, water proof clothing, spare layers, hat, gloves.
  • An umbrella.
  • You may be stationary, outside for about an hour or more. Some people may bring sleeping bags.
  • Food and drink.
  • Something to sit on. A camping/carry mat or a fold up chair.
