Echo Two

Taken from Field Recordings 3 - a new collection of manipulated field recordings combined with musical ideas.

This track is sampled and used in track one from the album, Dales, and makes heavy use of a Vox Repeat Percussion pedal I made from the instructions at Guitar FX Layouts.

I like it on it’s own as well.

Filmed on 10th March 2023 at St. Ives Estate, Harden, Bingley, UK

All The Time

The Argent Grub brings you two new songs about love and loss.

All The Time is a duet with Jehanne who adds her lush, warm vocals to add angelic, haunting overtones to the song. The track builds around an acoustic guitar that is warped through layers of reverb and delay, creating an otherworldly soundscape against which the lyrics are set.

Bring the Night is another simple guitar piece. Synths and organ bring colour to a solitary landscape in which a trumpet beckons you home. The track is for all those that need to rest.

All The Time is another collaboration with Jehanne, a singer and songwriter based in Leeds in the UK. You can find her work on Spotify and Soundcloud.

Walk - The Argent Grub and Lianne Hall

Lianne Hall was described by John Peel as “One of the great English voices”, and I’ve been a fan since I first heard her voice on one of his annual Festive Fifty shows.

The simplicity of Lianne’s approach to the tracks on her album, Abandon Ship, was a big influence on me when it came to writing Walk, so on a whim, and with very little expectation, I sent it to her to see if she wanted the song, and to see whether she could make something of it.

She liked it and the results of our collaboration are shared here.

Hello Person

Beats, bleeps, and noises bridging the machine/human interface. The track is built from openly licenced loops (Creative Commons by Attribution) that were created as part of Libre Music Challenge #13.

Only loops from the archive are used with no additional material, although some loops have been chopped and processed. This track combines loops from all the people that took part.

The video was made in the same spirit using only open licenced video already available on the web.

Neither the film, or the finished track, would have been possible without people choosing to openly licence their material for re-use. So thank you for doing that. Equally, all the software tools used to create the track and film were free and open source.

Don’t Spread Germs

This video takes an old UK public information film about germs, and mashes it up with a modern animation that covers similar ground, and a fresh soundtrack from The Argent Grub.

Neither the film, or the finished track, would have been possible without people choosing to openly licence their material for re-use.
Equally, all the software tools used to create the track and film were free and open source.

I Can’t Breathe

This music track was created as a response to the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 sparked by the death of George Floyd.
The video was made during Black History Month 2021.

The music track is 8 minutes and 46 seconds long. While we now know that Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck for 1 minute less than was originally reported, 8 minutes and 46 seconds is a time inextricably linked with George’s death.

The track features the names of 108 black men and women who have died at the hands of police.

This is small way of keeping their names alive and raising awareness.

Ardrossan

Ardrossan beach is a sliver of land sandwiched between the water of the Firth of Clyde and a road, the A78, with it’s 60mph speed limit.

There are spectacular views across the water to the Isle of Arran, and the recording captures the lapping of waves, children playing on the beach, and the passing traffic.
